The special education major will prepare teacher candidates to teach and support students with specific learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, mild intellectual disabilities and/or physical and health disabilities. Special education teachers and intervention specialists may work alongside a general education teacher providing support, accommodations, and modifications to students with disabilities in the general education classroom; may provide more individualized instruction to students with disabilities in a resource room; or may teach students with disabilities in a self-contained special education classroom. When finished, students may apply for certification to teach individuals with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning and behavior disorders from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75 throughout the program.
